Compliant, Coordinated & Community-Driven Asset Disposal at Scale Disposing of end-of-life IT equipment in large organisations presents more than a logistical challenge — it requires total compliance, seamless coordination, and ideally, purposeful reuse. Concept Management recently partnered with MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency), and Cast North West to deliver an enterprise IT disposal project that went beyond compliance — delivering real, measurable social value.

The Challenge: Enterprise-Scale Refresh, Seamless Disposal

MHRA was conducting a technology refresh replacing out of warranty laptops, however, the goal wasn't just to dispose of the redundant laptops — they wanted to repurpose the old machines for charitable use. Still, the disposal needed to meet strict organisational and regulatory standards, including:

  • Full compliance with the Data Protection Act
  • Certified destruction or secure erasure of all data-bearing devices
  • Alignment with European WEEE regulations
  • A single point of contact, a closed-loop process, and full auditability from start to finish

The Solution: Enterprise-Grade Disposal with Social Value

Concept Management ensured that the redundant laptops from MHRA were:

  • Collected using secure, SC-cleared logistics
  • Overwritten to NCSC standards using Blancco Software
  • Refurbished with new software and operating systems
  • Repackaged and set up for use by a charitable organisation
The entire project was delivered free of charge, with Concept also covering refurbishment and logistics. The devices were then donated to Cast North West, a charity transforming lives through angling and outdoor activity programmes.

The Charity Impact: Empowering Cast North West

Cast North West uses sport, nature, and mentoring to support:

    • Disaffected young people
    • Individuals with physical and mental disabilities
    • Ex-service personnel with PTSD
    • Children in care
    • Over 55s through digital inclusion programmes
    • The charity supports over 10,000 individuals annually, and the laptops were used to:

    • Build a digital training suite
    • Support staff and volunteers
    • Enable IT training for older adults and vulnerable learners

Any charitable organisation is only as good as its donors and supporters. We’re lucky that MHRA and Concept offered to help. The computers help us deliver training, support our staff, and complete our IT suite for the over 55s.
